Zinzi

Privacy Notice

What Zinzi keeps about you, why, who sees it, and how to stop. For learners, and for parents and guardians.

What Zinzi keeps

Your email address, the name you want to be called, your age band (not your date of birth), and, if you choose to tell Zinzi, your grade, curriculum and school. Your lessons: what you type or say, turned into text, and what Zinzi replies. The progress Zinzi records from them, and mock exam marks.

Why

To teach you, to pick up where you left off, and to plan what to practise next. Nothing is used for advertising, and nothing is sold.

How we use data to improve Zinzi

If “Improve Zinzi for everyone” is on, Zinzi may use your conversations and practice, with your name, email, school and photos removed, to make its teaching better, including training Zinzi’s own AI models. It is never sold and never used for advertising. A learner 18 or over starts with it on and can switch it off in Settings, under Data controls. For a learner under 18 it stays off unless a parent or guardian switches it on; the learner can always switch it off. When it is off, nothing new from your lessons goes into improving Zinzi, and lessons from a time it was off are never used, even if it is switched on later. Voice recordings are not kept and are never used for training; if that ever changes, Zinzi will ask separately first.

Learners under 18

Nothing about a learner under 18 is kept until a parent or guardian agrees once, for tutoring, progress tracking, mock exams and weekly reports. Until then the learner can learn, but each lesson is forgotten when it ends. The parent or guardian gets a short weekly summary of progress, not the learner’s conversations.

Voice and photos

Speech is turned into text for the lesson; the recording is not kept. A photo of your work is read for the lesson it was sent in.

Other companies

To teach, Zinzi sends lesson text to AI and speech services such as Anthropic, OpenAI or Microsoft Azure. This can mean it is processed outside South Africa. They process it for Zinzi, not for themselves.

Your choices

You can see what Zinzi keeps, download it, correct it, or ask for it to be deleted. A learner 18 or over does this from Settings; a parent or guardian from their Zinzi home.
